Must Watch: Stephen Colbert's Response to Boston Is Absolutely Perfect

On Tuesday’s Colbert Report, Stephen addressed the Boston Marathon in that very special way that only he seems to have mastered. He recognized that a terrible tragedy had occurred, but then, with the perfect mix of satire and sincerity, left viewers feeling buoyed, patriotic and hopeful.

“Who ever did this obviously did not know shit about the people of Boston,” Colbert remarked at the top of the show. “‘Cause nothing these terrorists do is gonna shake them. For Pete’s sake, Boston was founded by the pilgrims, a people so tough they had to buckle their goddamn hats on!”

He then added, “Here’s what these cowards really don’t get. They attacked the Boston Marathon — an event celebrating people who run 26 miles on their day off until their nipples are raw for fun.”

There’s a lesson to be learned here — never try to keep down a runner, a Bostonian or Stephen Colbert.
