Accused child molester Roy Moore’s support amongst religious leaders has remained steadfast amid the mounting allegations against him—at least, according to his wife Kayla Moore’s Facebook page. She posted a letter of support of her husband, which, it turns out, repurposed the last four paragraphs of a signed letter of support that was originally published on Moore’s campaign website in August.
Al.com reports that several of the pastors on that list say they were not contacted before Kayla Moore reposted their endorsement; three have asked that their names be removed.
(A few days later, interestingly enough, Moore shared a Gateway Pundit link claiming that accuser Beverly Young Nelson had forged Moore’s signature in her high school yearbook.)
“The list that has recently circulated was evidently copied and pasted from the August endorsements without checking to see if I still endorsed Moore,” Pastor Thad Endicott of Heritage Baptist Church told Al.com.
Tijuanna Adetunji of Fresh Anointing House of Worship also said she was not “asked about this story or allegations.”
Meanwhile, Dr. George Grant, a pastor from Tennessee, told MSMV that he hasn’t spoken to Moore in a decade or spoken with his campaign, and that he did not give permission for his name to be on this list at all.
Not everyone is upset to be included here, however. When contacted by Jezebel, Reverend David Whitney of Cornerstone Free Evangelical Church in Pasadena, Maryland reaffirmed his support for Moore, although he said he was not contacted prior to the republished endorsement. He doesn’t believe the allegations against Moore, claiming there are holes in the accusers’ stories.
“I hope that you are willing to look at open evidence rather that jumping to conclusions,” he said in a phone call. “It’s very bad to slander someone.”
A Moore campaign representative did not immediately respond to Jezebel’s request for comment.
