Mueller, Translated: It's Crime Time

In his first public statement on the Trump-Russia investigation, Special Counsel Robert Mueller said that charging President Trump of a crime was simply “not an option” for his office to consider. However, Mueller specifically did not exonerate Trump, countering the messaging of both AG Barr and the president himself.

“If we had confidence the President clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so,” Mueller said. In other words, if he did it… this is how he would have done it!

Mueller also cited Justice Department rules that prohibit a sitting president from being indicted. He said that it would be, “unfair to potentially accuse somebody of a crime when there can be no court resolution of an actual charge.”

Despite lawmakers calling for Mueller to testify before Congress regarding his findings, Mueller says he will not heed those calls, citing his report as his testimony. Mueller confirmed that the investigation is closed and announced his resignation from his role as special counsel and return to private life.

Mueller emphasized that the redacted report speaks for itself; Congressional Democrats are already interpreting Mueller’s statement as the extra push they needed to commence impeachment proceedings.

This was Mueller’s mic drop moment, and it’s time for my mom’s “Mueller Time” mug to go into retirement. RIP to a real one.
