In a surprisingly introspective interview with Moviefone of all places, Megan Fox says she’s aware that people see her as a “glorified pin-up girl,” and it’s hard for audiences to connect to a character who’s just “the glossy lips in the middle of the desert.” Now she’s attempting to make the difficult transition to characters that allow her to “be more human,” in an attempt to shed her “self-absorbed ice queen” image. Fox also says she’s more guarded in interviews because she feels her words have been edited and misconstrued by journalists. She explains:
I feel people think I’m almost like a robot — like an android. And that I’m all about me and my thoughts are all about me. That I want to be famous. I know one thing I’ve heard a lot is, “Does she say the things that she says because she wants attention? It’s attention-seeking.” But I always felt like, if that were the case, wouldn’t I display some sort of attention-seeking behavior, which I’ve never done. I’ve always tried to live a really normal, private, quiet life … You have to just guard yourself, because you never know what [reporters] are going to do. Like I said, I used to have a lot of fun in interviews — I’d be playful, I’d be sarcastic. But there’s too much room for someone to take what I was saying and cut it up, rearrange it, and throw it on ‘Extra.’ It’s insane. You have to be really strong. You have to just shut yourself off to the criticism at some point.
In a joint GQ interview with Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood says when asked about being a social libertarian, “These people who are making a big deal about gay marriage? I don’t give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of. Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want.” Leo responds, “That’s the most infuriating thing – watching people focus on these things. Meanwhile, there’s the onset of global warming and these incredibly scary and menacing things with the future of our economy and our relationship to the rest of the world. In the new issue of Vogue, Michelle Williams says, “I feel like something has changed for me…Maybe it has something to do with turning 30. I don’t feel as shy or nervous or self-conscious. I have more confidence that I can handle what life brings me…It’s like I’ve found my voice.” Another interesting tidbit: She used padding to fill out her My Week With Marilyn costumes after she was “unsuccessful” at gaining weight. “Unfortunately, it went right to my face,” Williams said. “So at some point it became a question of, Do I want my face to look like Marilyn Monroe‘s or my hips?” [Hollywood Reporter]
