Madonna To Finally Launch Clothing Line For Grown-Ups

Latest

Having licensed her name to a clothing line for tweens, Material Girl, Madonna has announced she’ll do a second line for adults — specifically, women aged 27-50. It’s brought to you by the same people behind Material Girl, and it’ll be called Truth Or Dare by Madonna. It will be a “lifestyle” brand, which is what industry types call it when they want to hawk everything at you from handbags to scented candles. Truth Or Dare by Madonna’s first product will be an as-yet unnamed women’s perfume, set to launch in 2012. [WWD]

Here is Karl Lagerfeld‘s boy-toy Baptiste Giabiconi dancing to (a weird, French live cover of) the Friends theme on the French Dancing With The Stars. “In terms of technique,” says the first judge, “Baptiste, I found you as clumsy as Ross or Chandler.” Another called Giabiconi’s performance “a little uptight.” [YouTube]

  • Syms Corp. — which owns discount chains Syms and Filene’s Basement — announced it is bankrupt and going out of business. It’s unusual for a retailer to announce a bankruptcy right before the holiday shopping season, which is traditionally the most lucrative period of the whole year, so you know things must be really bad. Filene’s Basement was in bankruptcy when Syms acquired it for $63 million in 2009; in the Chapter 11 filing, the corporation listed assets of $236 million, liabilities of $94 million, and said months of talks with potential buyers had amounted to nothing. Syms and Filene’s stores will undergo liquidation, a process that could last through January, after which the company will be no more. That sound you just heard was Fran Fine crying into her rack of Filene’s designer skirt suits. [Bloomberg]

Lately, he made a video ad for Dom Pérignon champagne. We’re going to write this in Twin Peaks reverse-speak so the Transcendental one can fully understand it: doG. gnikcuF. timmaD. divaD. hcnyL. • She wears fluoro underwear…fluoro. As in fluorescent. Well, I don’t know if she still does, but when we last worked together she’d quite often have fluorescent underwear on and I so loved that about her! It was so unexpected.”
