Lorde has casually posted a snippet of what sounds like a discarded track (what she calls “an old melo sketch”) from her album Melodrama.
The song sounds a lot like the second half of “Hard Feelings / Loveless,” in which Lorde manages to sound like a full school-choir of singing voices. “I just want your love, I just want your heart-breaking love,” she sings in the snippet, which she uploaded to Twitter.
Her vocals here remind me a lot of Cocorosie, the early-aughts sister duo who made demented indie pop out of children’s toys. But honestly so do a lot of people, like Halsey and Selena Gomez, who often sing in what’s known as “indie pop voice.” You know the one.
I’m hoping for a full version of this, as I imagine her iPhone is stacked with weird voice memos and extra tracks that would probably make for a great B-sides collection.
