LeVar Burton Is Here and Ready to Answer All Your Questions!

Latest

We’ve got a very special treat today: Starting at 1 p.m., LeVar Burton will be here and answering your questions! He doesn’t have tons of time — just enough for you, dear reader, to ask what’s on your mind — so you’d better get in here.

In case you’ve just returned from a two-month tour of duty on a classified deep-sea submarine: On May 28, Burton launched a Kickstarter campaign to build a widely accessible, web-based version of Reading Rainbow. It blew through its original goal within 24 hours, broke the record for most backers ever and has raised an astonishing $4.7 million.

But they’re not done yet! Burton and his team are making one final push. Donations stalled slightly in the middle of the month (they raised $3.5 million the first week, but just $400,000 in the following three weeks), but they’ve picked up again with Seth MacFarlane’s promise to match $1 million worth of donations for every dollar raised over $4 million.

That means if the campaign can reach $5 million, they can reach an additional 7,500 classrooms for free and fund the development of a mobile version—and reach another batch of 5,000 classrooms besides. Because once they clear the $5 million milestone, RRKidz plans to put any additional money (after covering their costs) toward reaching more classrooms. If you’ve been meaning to chip in, you’ve got until July 2.

But you don’t have to take my word for it! Take it away, LeVar (and I’m very, very sorry for stealing your line).

Updated: And that’s a wrap! Thanks so much for stopping by!
