'Lego Movie 2' Filmmaker Wants More Badass Females in the Sequel

Latest

As we all know, The Lego Movie is hands down, one of the greatest movies ever made in the history of all time and that is not up for debate, so please don’t even try. But that doesn’t mean one of the people behind the $400 million blockbuster is satisfied, at least not when it comes to the movie’s depiction of women.

“I’m not sure our movie passes the Bechdel test entirely and I think that it’s important,” Chris McKay (who worked on The Lego Movie and was recently announced as the sequel’s director) told the Daily Mail.

“For us we have a lot of producers that were female who had concerns and we were always constantly saying to ourselves: Are we just a bunch of white guys sitting here making this movie from our own myopic point of view?” he said.

McKay said the creators were “constantly responding to that question,” which is how they ended up making Wyldstyle (the super badass awesome female lead) a better character in the film. “I think it’s forcing us to look at how we make a sequel and turn that into something that’s more powerful and special,” he added. OMG is this guy real? A hit filmmaker is talking about the Bechdel test? A Hollywood producer examining his white male privilege? IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING. ARE WE IN THE MATRIX?

I guess, now more than ever this song is totally relevant:
