Fox News’ Laura Ingraham spent a portion of her White Power Hour Wednesday night admitting what we all knew: It’s not just undocumented immigrants that right wingers have a problem with; they hate immigrants in general!
What started out as a rant about congressional hopeful Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez turned into a heavy handed diatribe about immigration. Or, in other words, non-white people daring to make a living in America.
Ingraham explained to viewers:
In some parts of the country, it seems like the America we know and love doesn’t exist anymore. Massive demographic changes have been foisted on the American people, and they are changes that none of us ever voted for, and most of us don’t like. From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically in some ways the country has changed. Now much of this is this is related to both illegal and in some cases legal immigration, which, of course, progressives love.
Ingraham went on to claim the Democrats of yore cared about borders, while the new (leftist, socialist, pinko, whatever scares old white Fox News viewers the most) activist wing of the party wants to destroy that.
It’s not new for Ingraham and her ilk to lament a bygone America, wringing their hands over “demographic changes” as if no one can hear that dog whistle. But the many players on the right have been careful to focus on villainize the undocumented, using them as a contrast against the Good Immigrants™ who enter the country the right way.
As evidenced by Ingraham’s rant as well as the Trump administration’s attempts to make it harder for visa and green card holders to become citizens, that cloudy veneer of respect is clearly starting to deteriorate. There are no Good Immigrants™ anymore.
