Kids of a Late 9/11 Firefighter Pay Tribute to Their Dad, Pitch His Product on Shark Tank

Shark Tank, an entertaining excuse to praise the falsity of American exceptionalism, is apparently also an exercise in heartwarming familial gestures.

On Sunday night’s episode, siblings Kaley, Christian, and Keira Young went on Shark Tank to pitch their dad’s dream product. The trio lost their mother to breast cancer a few years prior; and then their father, New York City firefighter Kevin Young, died from cancer related to his 9/11 cleanup efforts at Ground Zero three months before the kids’ appearance on Shark Tank.

The item they pitched is the Cup Board Pro, a wood chopping board with a plastic, detachable trough for easy cleanup. It’s a simple and ingenious idea I certainly did not not Google in the hopes of purchasing after watching the episode.

While explaining the product, the Young kids played Mark Cuban and crew a video pitch their father recorded prior to his diagnosis and hospice care earlier in the year. Moved by their story, all five sharks—Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greine, Daymond John, and guest shark Matt Higgin—offered them $100,000 for a 20 percent stake in the business. They also promised to donate proceeds to a charity for firefighters affected by 9/11. The moment is incredibly moving and you can watch it below. I personally hope they get rich.
