Judy Blume's New Book (!) Is About a Plane Crash Mystery in New Jersey

Latest

Judy Blume, tween whisperer and the only other Judy who can judge you, has a new book coming out in June 2015! People has the details: In the Unlikely Event is for Adults, not the Deenie set, and it “takes as its backdrop a series of real-life plane crashes that occurred in late 1951 and early 1952 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.”

Blume grew up in Elizabeth, and the crashes were a big deal; Newark closed for almost a year after the third one.

“These events have lingered in my mind ever since,” Blume said in a statement. “It was a crazy time. We were witnessing things that were incomprehensible to us as teenagers.”
“Was it sabotage? An alien invasion?” she said. “No one knew, and people were understandably terrified.”

In the Unlikely Event will be Blume’s first Book For Adults since 1998’s Summer Sisters, the racy adolescent-lesbian-lite novel that implanted in my preteen brain the importance of one day banging two hot cousins who do construction work on Martha’s Vineyard, etc.
