Nick Gordon has been ordered to pay $36.25 million in damages in the wrongful death lawsuit against him brought by the estate of Bobbi Kristina Brown.
In September, an Atlanta judge found Gordon liable for her death in a default judgment after he failed to show up in court. The estate initially sued Gordon for $50 million. The Associated Press reports:
Bobby Brown and his daughter, LaPrincia Brown, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s half-sister, were among the witnesses who testified at Thursday’s hearing.
The young woman’s family blamed Gordon, accusing him in the lawsuit of giving Brown a “toxic cocktail” before putting her face-down in the water. Gordon, an orphan three years older whom Houston had raised as her own, has not been charged with a crime. Brown had referred to Gordon as her husband.
According to an autopsy, Bobbi Kristina had a mixture of alcohol, morphine, cocaine and prescription drugs in her system. Her death was classified as “undetermined.”
TMZ reports that the judgment issued by a jury includes $13 million for pain and suffering, and $15 million for loss of life. The total also accounts for Bobbi Kristina’s net worth and potential earnings.
Gordon has not appeared in court for any of the proceedings and missed multiple legal deadlines.
