Joan Rivers and Elaine Stritch Left Out of Oscars 'In Memoriam' Reel

Latest

Every year, the Oscars “In Memoriam” tribute manages to leave out a few notable names—last year’s snubs included Cory Monteith—but it’s pretty unbelievable that Elaine Stritch and Joan Rivers, two of the funniest women in show business, weren’t given their due last night.

Sure, both Stritch and Rivers worked primarily in television, but both have done films (most recently the former’s critically acclaimed documentary, Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me)—and, uh, Joan Rivers worked the Oscars red carpet for 20 years!

Neither of these incredible women needed some maudlin awards show reel to be remembered; their work stands alone. But especially considering that the snubs accompanied an acceptance speech pleading for gender equality, this stings.
