Jessica Simpson, a 'Modern-Day Lucy,' Is Getting Her Own Sitcom

So the bad news is that Parks and Recreation remains on the brink of cancellation in spite of continuously smart and funny writing coupled with excellent comedic performances by the entire cast. The chances of it getting renewed after this season is slim to none and that probably won’t change no matter how much we complain or go on and on about how great Amy Poehler is as Leslie Knope. We have to accept this. We have to move on. We can continue writing out Leslie/Ben erotic fan fiction, but beyond that, we need to prepare ourselves for what could be the end. (Or not! Leslie would never give up so easily.) Luckily, NBC is offering us a consolation prize in the form of another plucky, blonde heroine —- Jessica Simpson.

The singer (?)/actress (?) is in the process of developing a scripted comedy based on her life for NBC with Nick Bakay, the brain behind a bunch of stuff that you’ve either never seen or was forced to watch on an airplane one time (Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Zookeeper and ‘Til Death) and Ben Silverman of production company Electus.

“I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy,” said Simpson. “I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life, so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing.”
