Jameis Winston, FSU QB Accused of Rape, Named AP Player of the Year

Latest

Jameis Winston, the Florida State quarterback whose rape charges were dropped after a delayed investigation, has been named the Associated Press national athlete of the year. This newest honor joins a long litany of postseason accolades — including the Heisman, the Walter Camp national player of the year, the Davey O’Brien quarterback
of the year and the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year.

About two-thirds through the AP article announcing his win, there’s a brief mention that Winston “continued to excel despite a sexual assault investigation that became
public last month.” It’s also noted that “the State Attorney’s Office announced that it would
not press charges before the ACC championship game.” From there, the topic rapidly shifts to baseball, another sport that Winston excels at. We learn that he has a fastball that reaches 93-95 miles per hour.
