Intervention: 8 Bottles Of Wine A Day Is Not Casual

Latest

Last night’s episode focused on Jackie, who drinks eight bottles of wine every day, due to grief over a miscarriage she suffered years ago. Despite the consequences—divorce, DUI, losing custody of her daughter—she insists she’s not an alcoholic.

Jackie’s miscarriage occurred about 15 years ago but, as her sister points out, she has a hard time “closing the door on grief.” She began drinking every day after it. Jackie’s teenage daughter—who was about 2 at the time of the miscarriage—doesn’t really remember a time that her mother was happy or sober. Jackie is in such deep denial about her condition that she can’t recognize that the alcohol has kept her disconnected, physically and emotionally, from her daughter. In the end, she agreed to go to treatment, although there wasn’t much of an update on her condition, other than that her daughter has not spoken with her since treatment.
