Idris Elba Thinks Internet Thirst Ruined His Chance to Play James Bond

And just like that, you’ve ruined Idris Elba’s career.

Kidding, he’ll be fine. But because everyone on the Internet keeps campaigning for Idris Elba to play James Bond—which is a totally legitimate and reasonable request—the actor feels a bit overwhelmed by the love. Especially since he’s never even spoken with the film franchise’s producers about the role.

During an appearance at the British Film Institute in London on Tuesday for his documentary Mandela, My Dad and Me, Elba told the crowd, “Honestly, it’s a rumor that’s really starting to eat itself. If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone.” 🙁

I somehow doubt that, Idris, but maybe you’d know better. He also says, “Daniel Craig actually set the rumor off. About four years ago he said Idris Elba would be a great Bond and then it started to creep. I blame Daniel.”

Wrap your head around this: Idris Elba may not ever play James Bond. Just deal with that potential heartbreak now.
