'I Can’t Let Some (Expletive) Come Along and Steal My Whole Life' Says Dancer Who Lost Foot in Marathon Bombing

Latest

Expletive Yeah, Adrianne Haslet-Davis! The 32-year-old dance instructor who lost her foot in the Boston Marathon bombing is dealing with her new reality like a motherexpletiving Boss.

Last Monday, Haslet-Davis was watching the Boston Marathon with her husband when the second bomb exploded. She didn’t think she was hurt at first, but then she looked down and noticed her left foot dangling. Yikes.

Fearing that her life was in real danger, she told the Boston Herald:

“I told my husband I loved him and I was so sorry all this had to happen,” she said. “If this was going to be the last time we saw each other, I wanted him to know how much I loved him. Then I told him we’d make it through this, that I wasn’t ready to leave him yet.”

Thankfully, good samaritans appeared to carry them both to safety/the hospital STAT.

Although the trauma surgeons at Boston Medical Center have proven themselves to be fucking superheroes, they weren’t able to perform actual magic and reattach Haslet-Davis’ foot. When she heard the news of her amputation, she was understandably upset.

She still hasn’t come to terms with it completely (no duh), and her honest and candid answers are downright inspiring:

“I’ve been better, but I’m doing OK.” When asked about the dark moments, she bellowed, “Hell, yeah, I’ve had plenty. I’ve thrown my walker across the room and haven’t used it yet. But I realized you have to be selfish about the things that matter the most. My husband. The job I love. Dancing is my life. Yeah, having my foot blown off, that really sucks. But I can’t wallow in woe is me.
“I can’t let some (expletive) come along and steal my whole life. So, I’ll dance again. And next year, though I’ve never been a runner, yes, I plan to run the marathon.”

I’m misty-eyed, and motivated. Hell, I’m about to sign up to run a marathon, too! Fine, a half-marathon. OK, let’s be real, I can do a 5K fun walk-run in December if I start training now.
