I Am Extremely Here for This Upcoming Riverdale Musical Spinoff

EntertainmentTV

I have found few things as enjoyable as the Riverdale musical episode, and though the particular plotline escapes me (Murder syrup? Jingly Jangly? Fizzy gargoyles?) I never quite got “Do Me a Favor” out of my head. So it was with great pleasure that I learned The CW included a Riverdale a musical spin-off series in its fall season pilot order—not Sabrina with music, sadly, but close.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Greg Berlanti—the sick, twisted mind behind Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, not to mention Lifetime’s You—will produce a pilot Katy Keene, based loosely on Archie Comics’ 1940s-era model/actress/singer character of the same name.

The show is described as a “musical dramedy” about “four iconic Archie Comics characters” as they “chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City.” I can only assume, based on Berlanti’s previous repertoire, that this will be something like Girls but with murder (and singing), or like Sex and the City but with murder (and singing).

I am still pulling for a lone-standing Josie and the Pussycats spinoff, but I suppose this will do for now, should the pilot indeed get picked up as a series. MORE COMICS. MORE MUSIC. MORE MURDER.
