False Alarm at Place de la Republique Sends Thousands Fleeing

A huge stampede occurred at Place de la Republique earlier today when crowds at the memorial believed that there was a gunman among them, The Guardian Reports. Police, however, have confirmed that this is a false alarm.

According to The Guardian, the false alarm sent thousands of people running from the memorial. Video of those at the location of the alleged shooting shows thousands of people running and screaming in panic:

Reporting for CNN, Christiane Amanpour and Anderson Cooper told viewers that those gathered at the memorial were told to leave by the police. Many, however, have already returned.

Police have secured the area as per latest updates.
