Hey! VINA: a New App That’s Like Tinder for Girl Friends

Latest

There are dating apps for every fetish and even one that matches people to potential pets, but what about an app that helps women make new female friends? Finally, there is one, and it’s called Hey! VINA. It works similarly to Tinder, but instead of sexy hookups, it connects new female friends with each other through shared interests, favorite activities and “life stage.”

“We built this app to solve for our own needs as women who have moved, traveled, changed careers, and shifted lifestyles and life stages,” Olivia June Poole, the app’s co-founder and CEO, told Fast Company. “Through our adult lives we go a lot of places that our existing friendships don’t always support and it becomes time to expand our circles.” Poole dreamt up Fast Company after she moved to San Francisco and signed up for OkCupid, where she tried using its algorithm to make female friends. There, she found other women trying to do the same thing.

In 2012, Poole co-founded Ladies Who Vino, a wine-filled social networking event series aimed at bringing professional women together. Ultimately, the gatherings inspired the Hey! VINA app. Like Tinder, the app first connects to your Facebook account. Afterwards, you fill out a six-question quiz to help determine interests and personality traits. Users can fill out what they’re seeking in their dream pal on their profile and you swipe through until you find your #girlgang, #squadgoals, #teamofsheroes, #firstwivesclub, #allfemaleoceanseleven, etc.

Currently, the app is available in San Francisco and New York, with more cities being added in the near future.
