Here's Your First Look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing

Latest

Here’s a little something for the impatient Sherlock fans: via the Wrap, it’s our first image of Benedict Cumberbatch as computer pioneer Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. Nice suspenders, dude.

The movie’s currently in post-production in the U.K., though it’s not yet clear when it’ll hit theaters in the U.S. Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode and Mark Strong are co-starring.

It’s not going to be a particularly chipper flick, though. Turing, an important figure in the invention of modern computing, worked on code-breaking efforts during World War II. His reward: a 1952 conviction for “gross indecency” (i.e., homosexuality). Threatened with prison, he was forced into hormone treatments and committed suicide two years later.

Queen Elizabeth only just got around to issuing him a formal pardon.
