Who (literally) pays for abortion restrictions? You do!
Idaho recently had to cover $376,000 in legal fees after a woman sued the state when she was charged for an illegal abortion, the Associated Press reported. According to the Washington Post, the state has paid more than $1 million since 2000 to defend abortion limits — of course, that's taxpayers' money that's being wasted.
South Dakota’s attorney general said in 2011 that a law passed that year would likely cost anywhere from $1.75 million to $4 million to defend in court. Last summer, the Argus Leader reported that the state had spent $378,000 in defense of another 2005 abortion law.
North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem got a $400,000 fund to use to defend the state’s anti-abortion laws. Kansas has spent $769,000 defending abortion limits since 2011, according to the Associated Press. The state’s attorney general foresaw an extra $500,000 cost over the next two years.
There are numerous other states with representatives who believe that protecting fetuses should be #1 priority. If you voted for them, you know where your money's going.
