Gunman Kills 2 Women During Trainwreck Showing in Louisiana

John Russel Houser has been identified as the gunman who opened fire in a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, killing two people and himself.

Houser, 59, was reportedly at a 7:10 screening of Trainwreck when he shot and killed two people seated in front of him: Mayci Breaux, 21, and Jillian Johnson, 33. Houser then stood up and started shooting, injuring eight other people in the process.

Afterward, Houser tried exiting the theater with the crowd, according to 7 Online:

The gunman initially tried escaping by blending into the fleeing crowd, but turned back when he saw police heading inside from the parking lot, authorities said. Officers tailing him back into the theater then heard a single gunshot and found him dead inside, police said.

For the past month, Houser, of Alabama, had been holed up in a local motel and had no contact with his family. Cops say he has “minor criminal offenses” on his record.

Amy Schumer, the star of Trainwreck, tweeted about the tragedy.
