Female Authors Top the New York Public Library's Charts

Latest

Women are dominating New Yorkers’ reading lists. The NYPL just released lists of the books most circulated across its 91 library branches in 2013. Topping the charts in fiction was Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn, and leading the pack for nonfiction was Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg.

In other words, do not fuck with women from New York because they are overdue for a promotion and they are not happy about it.

AM New York has the complete lists. All but three of the top fiction titles were by women, with popular titles including J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy, Revenge Wears Prada and of course, both 50 Shades of Grey and 50 Shades Freed. (No word yet whether 911 calls to cut adventurous couples out of handcuffs have skyrocketed.)

Nonfiction is heavier on the dudes, but Sonia Sotomayor’s My Beloved World, Tina Fey’s Bossypants and Cheryl Strayed’s Wild were all firmly ensconced within the top 10. Are we feeling inspired yet?
