The FBI is investigating more of Hillary Clinton’s emails, FBI Director James Comey said Friday. They were found on devices seized from the home of Anthony Weiner, who is technically still married to Huma Abedin and is currently under investigation for sexting a minor, the New York Times reports.
“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation,” the letter reads. “I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.“
In the same letter, Comey also says the FBI has not yet assessed or reviewed the emails, though the AP reports that the emails “did not come from [Clinton’s] private server.”
CNN quotes an anonymous law enforcement agent who says the emails were sent to, and not by, Clinton.
In July, the FBI stated that Clinton’s decision to use a private email server when she was Secretary of State was “extremely careless” but did not recommend further action.
