  • Joan Smalls — a model whose career we’ve been tracking for years — bagged an Estée Lauder contract. The Puerto Rican’s ads will debut next spring. “We are rejoicing in the importance of global beauty,” said Aerin Lauder. [WWD]
  • Isabella Rossellini says she “regrets” posing for Madonna‘s Sex book. Not because of the graphic content, but because she felt the overall tone was a little superior. “I don’t think the book worked, even though the photos were extraordinary, and some of them quite memorable. I think there was a little bit of a moralistic sort of ‘I’ll teach you how to be free!’ — and that bothered the hell out of me…Because I think if you want to practice abstinence and that makes you happy, you are OK. If you want to be gay, that’s OK. If you want to screw anything that moves, that’s OK. It’s funny to use the word moralistic … but it was a little bit of ‘I know better!’ and I didn’t like that.” [Seattle PI]

Friends of Cachay say there were signs of trauma around her neck. Her boyfriend, Nicholas Brooks, is being held in police custody in connection with the death. “It wasn’t the healthiest of relationships. He seemed unstable,” said a friend of the designer. Brooks is the son of the Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks, who, Women’s Wear Daily reports, “faced 82 counts of sexual assault last year. Accused of raping 11 women he lured to his apartment by promising them movie roles, the elder Brooks pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges and is free on bail” pending a December 21 court date.
