- Sylvie Cachay, a 33-year-old swimwear designer who had worked in various capacities for brands including Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Anne Cole, and who ran her own line before the 2008 crash, was found dead in an overflowing bathtub at New York’s Soho House club after a downstairs neighbor complained of a leaking ceiling. Friends of Cachay say there were signs of trauma around her neck. Her boyfriend, Nicholas Brooks, is being held in police custody in connection with the death. “It wasn’t the healthiest of relationships. He seemed unstable,” said a friend of the designer. Brooks is the son of the Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks, who, Women’s Wear Daily reports, “faced 82 counts of sexual assault last year. Accused of raping 11 women he lured to his apartment by promising them movie roles, the elder Brooks pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges and is free on bail” pending a December 21 court date.
