President-elect Donald Trump has selected retired Army lieutenant general Michael Flynn, a man who loves to engage in Anti-Semitic discourse on Twitter, for the role of national security advisor. Not great, folks!
CNN reports that a “Trump transition official”(didn’t realize they had anything “official”) confirmed that the Orange Demagogue stuck his hand into a MAGA hat full of names and picked Flynn, a man seemingly incapable of keeping his mouth shut on matters of national security, for one of the most important roles in a presidential administration concerning national security. Very bad!
Consider this tidbit from Flynn’s past from CNN, emphasis ours:
On at least two occasions, his handling of classified information came under scrutiny by the US military.
Two former government officials with direct knowledge of the issue tell CNN that while Flynn oversaw intelligence in Afghanistan, he shared classified information with Pakistan on terror networks responsible for killing American troops. The intelligence, the sources say, came from another agency. Flynn wasn’t supposed to share it. They say he was trying to convince Pakistan to stop sheltering terrorists.
This is precisely the kind of person you want advising a man who doesn’t know his ass from his elbow on matters of national security. Great!
The Washington Post reports that Flynn is a fiery lil’ thing with itchy Twitter fingers whose “behavior and a string of controversial and dark statements about Islam, among other topics, have alarmed many of his former colleagues.” The general held a position in the Obama administration as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014, but was fired from his role.
CNN rooted around and found some gems on Twitter and Facebook from Flynn’s son –also his top adviser and chief of staff. Both appear to be a swamp of conspiracy theories about Huma Abedin and the Muslim Brotherhood and unfounded news stories like this one about President Obama “flaunting an erection” to female reporters. In short, he’s a nightmare who has the ear of a man who could soon be advising Donald Trump about matters of national security.
Lt. General Flynn has yet to accept the position offered, but something tells me he probably will.
