Donald Trump Claims He Is Not Racist, Even Though He Definitely Is

Politics

Donald Trump, a man who kicked off his presidential campaign by claiming Mexican immigrants were rapists and criminals, told reporters at a press pool event in Florida on Sunday night that he is “not a racist” and is in fact “the least racist person you have ever interviewed.” The latter statement could be true, provided the reporters on hand had never interviewed a person before, but the first one is certainly not.

There’s been renewed interest in the president’s bigotry following reports that Trump referred to countries like Nigeria and Haiti as “shithole countries,” during a recent meeting on immigration reform, claimed Haitians “all have AIDS” and that Nigerians live in “huts,” and asked why we couldn’t attract more immigrants from countries like Norway. At Sunday’s press event, reporters asked him to address people who think he is racist.

“I am not a racist,” Trump—who has thus far claimed our “inner cities, African Americans, Hispanics are living in hell because it’s so dangerous. You walk down the street, you get shot;” calls a U.S. Senator with some Native American roots “Pocahontas;” is reluctant to disavow white supremacists, and has repeatedly pushed for a ban on immigrants from certain Muslim countries, among other things—said. He added, “I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed. That I can tell you.” Trump also denied calling African nations shitholes, though several senators have confirmed hearing him do so.

This is not the first time Trump has claimed he is “the least” racist and/or anti-Semitic person and it will not be the last—not because it is true, but because there will likely be countless times throughout this miserable fucking presidency in which he will have to address something racist that dribbled out his mouth hole. But of course, each time it happens, you can count on elected officials and journalists alike to feign shock, for we are doomed to do this dance until the next celebrity billionaire takes the reins, I guess.
