Doctor Larry Nassar, Who Sexually Abused Olympic Gymnasts, Gets 60 Years for Child Porn

Larry Nassar, the Michigan doctor who molested young gymnasts for decades including Olympic athletes like Gabby Douglas and McKayla Maroney, received 60 years in prison for federal child porn charges on Thursday.

The Chicago Sun Times reports that Nassar had more than 37,000 images of child porn on electronic devices. The judge ordered that he serve his federal sentence consecutively to state sentences, ensuring he can not obtain an early release.

This sentencing is just one of three criminal cases currently against Nassar. In January, Nassar will be sentenced in state court for criminal sexual conduct against underage girls. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges in both Ingham and Eaton counties in November, which could lead next month to a prison sentence of life.

Nassar, overall, has been accused in civil and criminal complaints of assaulting more than 140 women. In a statement written to the judge before Thursday’s hearing, Maroney wrote: “He abused my trust, he abused my body and he left scars on my psyche that may never go away. He needs to be behind bars so he will never prey upon another child.”
