David O. Russell Treated Amy Adams Like Shit on Set of American Hustle

It turns out that all of the rumors about director David O. Russell are true: He’s kind of a dick. The latest round of leaked Sony emails include an exchange between journalist Jonathan Alter and Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton (the two are also brothers-in-law).

According to the New York Daily News, Alter wrote to Lynton asking if Sony had any more plans for the much-celebrated Russell:

Are you guys doing anything else with him? I know he’s brilliant but we have someone on our show who worked closely with him on ‘American Hustle’ and not only are the stories about him reforming himself total bullshit but the new stories of his abuse and lunatic behavior are extreme even by Hollywood standards.”

Alter detailed Russell’s behavior:

“He grabbed one guy by the collar, cursed out people repeatedly in front of others and so abused Amy Adams that Christian Bale got in his face and told him to stop acting like an asshole.”

Let’s just ponder the fact that Russell’s behavior was so out of control, that Christian Bale thought it had gone too far and stepped in.

Lynton confirmed that Alter’s reports were correct and that Russell’s next film would be “for Fox.” Makes you wonder what exactly a “brilliant” director has to do to actually get fired.
