College Student Starts Driving Barbie Car After DUI, Becomes Hero

Latest

Here’s the scoop: A Texas State University student got a DUI. As a result of the DUI, her license was automatically suspended and her dad took away her car. And then she was like ‘Fuck you, law! I am awesome!’ and started driving a Barbie jeep around campus because she didn’t want to get a bike (because “riding a bike around campus sucks… like really sucks,”). And now she’s a hero. Because we live in America in 2005.

More details you maybe wanted but maybe didn’t:

Her name is Tara Monroe and she is a 20-year-old junior majoring in industrial engineering. She received the DUI after refusing to take a breathalyzer test while driving back from a Waka Flocka concert. She got the car for $60 and found out that the previous owner was a little girl named Charlene. So she named the car Charlene.

She elaborated: “When we drove up to buy it, Charlene asked where the little one was to test drive it, to which I replied, ‘I am the little one.’”

New York Daily News writes:

Monroe likely hasn’t taken Charlene on any long-distance road trips, since her speed tops out at 5 mph. The pink Barbie Jeep will make an appearance at Monroe’s 21st birthday in November, though. The birthday girl plans to hit the town in her sweet ride for a party every 5-year-old would be jealous of.

“Most people don’t find the things me and my friends do very funny, just immature, so I didn’t expect to get this big of a reaction,” she said to MySA.com. “This is the best way I could have gotten my 15 minutes of fame. Basically, it was the best decision I’ve made in college yet.”

We are glad to hear it, Tara.
