City Votes To Let Woman Keep Therapy Kangaroo

Yesterday the city council in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma voted unanimously to create an exotic animal ordinance exception that will let Christie Carr keep Irwin, her partially-paralyzed kangaroo. The new law allows people to keep exotic animals if they have certification of adequate housing and a $50,000 liability insurance policy for injuries caused by the animal. (An anonymous donor already provided a policy for Irwin.) Carr says caring for Irwin helps treat her depression. “My life centers around him,” she says. “Irwin has brought me out of my shell.”
