Cindy Crawford Nabs Iconic Cover, Looks Fantastic
Latest- Cindy Crawford pulls Tyra’s patented couture pose on the cover of Vogue India‘s “Icons” issue. Cindy last popped up on the July cover of Elle Germany and made the front of April’s L’Officiel. [Design Scene]
 - Betsey Johnson couldn’t pay a $48.8 million loan. Last month, Steve Madden took over the loan, and took as collateral the totality of the company’s intellectual property. Given Steve Madden is a knock-off specialist and a white-collar criminal, this seemed like a really sad turn of events for Betsey Johnson. Then her business partner of over 30 years quit. Now, Madden has announced that in exchange for his forgiveness of the loan, he will take outright ownership of the company. And everyone, including Betsey Johnson herself, is pretending like being owned by a white-collar criminal knock-off artiste makes them so happy! [WWD]
 - Victoria Beckham doesn’t mind her husband’s reedy, high-pitched voice: “We were about to go out somewhere the other day, and he was sending an e-mail. He was sitting at the end of the bed, and he had no clothes on whatsoever. I was getting out of the shower, and I just stood there looking at him. He was all tan. He has all those tattoos, which I love. Hadn’t done his hair…And I thought, ‘You done good, girl.’ I sure wasn’t thinking of his high-pitched voice.” [Daily Mail]
 - Manolo Blahnik did a personal appearance at a department store and one woman bought 20 pairs of crocodile pumps. [WWD]
 - Valerie Plame enjoyed the New York premiere of the movie based on that little incident where the Bush administration outed her in the national media as an undercover CIA agent. “I far prefer this to being called a glorified secretary,” she said. Christie Brinkley said, “I think this movie could highlight nuclear weapons. We have to abolish nuclear weapons before they abolish us.” The movie is not about nuclear weapons. [WWD]
 - The films that most inspire Tim Gunn include Blow-Up, the original The Women, Elizabeth, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The September Issue, and The Devil Wears Prada. He says of that last one: “I went to see this movie with Grace Mirabella. Meryl Streep‘s character is loosely based on Anna Wintour, who replaced Grace at Vogue under dreadful circumstances. Grace was as still as a statue during the movie, which made me nervous. When the lights came up at the end, I slowly turned to Grace, whose eyes met mine. I gulped. She broke into a wide grin and shouted, ‘I loved it!'” [Vulture]
 - Freida Pinto was photographed by British InStyle magazine. [Daily Mail]
 - Add Mango to the list of brands apparently unconcerned by the allegations of sexual misconduct made against photographer Terry Richardson. The Spanish retailer hired Richardson to shoot Anja Rubik in Paris for its fall catalog. “We think his work is amazing and reflects the editorial side of fashion that we wanted to show,” said a spokeswoman. [WWD]
 - After a nanosecond’s break from the Hills, Lauren Conrad is back in fashion and on MTV. Her relaunched higher-end fashion line isn’t really stressing her out, she says — okaying other people’s sketches and getting samples made is no big whoop. “It will get stressful after this, when you’re dealing with deadlines, and you’re dealing with production and the possibility of a fashion show,” she explains. See the things Lauren Conrad has to deal with, personally? The Possibility Of A Fashion Show. Houllebecq‘s next best-seller, to be sure. [MTV]
 - Heidi Klum‘s clothing line for New Balance includes a black-and-white backless mini shift dress, with shoulderpads, that the supermodel wore to the collection’s launch party. It’ll be sold on Amazon. [Daily Mail]
 - Naturally, Snooki wants a clothing line. She also would like to try acting, “just to say that I tried it.” [OK]
 - Gap’s president, Marka Hansen, says the chain changed its logo because the new one is “more contemporary and current. It honors our heritage through the blue box while still taking it forward.” Aside from that oddly placed blue box (which looks a little like a skin tag), the “new” logo — which has been creeping onto clothing tags and into ads over the past year or so — isn’t so bad. But people sure do seem upset by this change. [HuffPo]
 - Carmen Kass had Guido Palau dye her hair a bright red backstage before Louis Vuitton. [Style.com]
 - Gisele Bündchen went to Miami for a shoot and the Daily Mail can’t decide if she “already looked a million bucks” or if she was “a sight for sore eyes” when she got off the plane. Tabloid. Cliché machine. Short circuit. [Daily Mail]
 - Sephora has a new iPhone/iPad app. [WWD]
 - Diane von Furstenberg is getting back into the beauty biz: her company now has a fragrance and a cosmetics licensee. This excites us mainly because one time at a sample sale everyone was handed a free DVF lipstick and it quickly became our favorite lipstick. [WWD]
 - Women own on average 12 garments that do not fit. The total value of these unwearable clothes? £289, or around $460. Yet another argument for regular clothing swaps. [Telegraph]
