Carrie Bradshaw Headed To The CW

The last thing we heard about The Carrie Diaries — the '80s-era Sex And The City prequel — was a denial of the rumor that Blake Lively would play Samantha Jones, Selena Gomez would be Charlotte York, Emma Roberts would play Miranda Hobbes, and Elizabeth Olsen would be the new Carrie Bradshaw. Now we've learned that the teen-oriented project will not be a film but a series, on (where else) The CW network. Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will be involved, as will Bushnell herself. And writer/producer Amy Harris, who's written for SATC, The Comeback, and Gossip Girl, will adapt the novel for the screen.

As you may recall, the Gossip Girl folks have been wanting to do an '80s project for a while — a spinoff called Valley Girls never made it as a fully-fledged show, but was worked into the second season of GG as a stand-alone episode.

We have no idea who will be playing the Leif Garret-obsessed Carrie, but two things are clear: Since Diablo Cody is working on a Sweet Valley High project and there's a Beetlejuice remake in the works, the '80s are so totally in, still. And despite six years on TV and two craptastic movies, the Sex And The City franchise refuses to die.

This doesn't ruffle my feathers. I am curious how Samantha will be involved if they're teenagers, since she has at least 7-8 years on the other characters.
