Can Ariana Grande and Jessie J Not Remake 'The Boy Is Mine'

Latest

Ariana Grande and Jessie J have powerful enough vocals that I’m sure they wouldn’t completely butcher a remake of Brandy and Monica’s famous duet “The Boy Is Mine.” Still: no thanks.

Producer Rodney Jerkins told Hits Daily Double that he’s producing a J/Grande version of “The Boy Is Mine,” the great, classic No. 1 single that came out when Ariana was just a four-year-old diva. VIBE reports:

In celebration of his 20th anniversary in the business next year, famed record producer/songwriter Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins revealed that the two pop superstars will rework Brandy and Monica’s classic 1998 hit “The Boy Is Mine” for his commemorative album.

Can you imagine Jessie J screaming Monica’s verses? Can she not?

In the interview, Jerkins also talked about his Capitol imprint—to which Evan Ross is signed, if you didn’t know—and he revealed that Sam Smith is doing an updated version of Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.” Jerkins says:

“When I asked him if he’d be a part of this project he was like, ‘No one else can do that song but me!'”

I can think of a few people (Brandy, for one), but cool.
