C-SPAN Caller Refers to Obama As 'That N***er' On Air

Latest

C-SPAN host Steve Scully got an unpleasant surprise Thursday morning during a segment on the midterm results, when a live on-air caller referred to President Obama using a racial slur.

The man, who identified himself as Anthony from San Diego, was apparently apparently trying to make some sort of point about the need for Republicans to be cautious about using their new heft in the House and Senate.

“The Republicans — and I’m a Republican — please do not overreach,” he said. “I know they’re going to overreach but I’m telling you, if you advocate for the repeal of Obamacare and you get too extreme, then Hillary Clinton will be elected President in 2016. This is about race. The Republicans hate that nigger Obama.”

Scully, who’d been digging around in some papers on his desk, immediately jerked upright, his arm flying towards the camera in an involuntary sort of talk-to-the-hand motion as he calmly hung up on Anthony from San Diego.

“Okay, I’m going to stop you there,” the host said. “We’re not going to use that kind of language… You can certainly make your point, but you cross the line when you use language like that.” Scully apologized to the show’s viewers before moving on to the next caller.

Remind me again why we let people call into television shows? Ever?

Talking Points Memo was first to spot the incident.
