Britney Spears’ lawyers have reportedly sent a sternly worded legal notice cautioning In Touch not to to move forward with a story about Spears’ alleged “erratic” behavior at the MTV VMAs.

According to TMZ, In Touch alerted Spears’ team about a piece that focuses on “Britney allegedly acting erratic at last month’s MTV Video Music Awards and ‘talking and laughing to herself and using a British accent,’” which actually sounds like normal, un-alarming behavior from a celebrity attending a silly awards show. Spears’ attorneys subsequently sent a letter threatening legal action:

A source connected with Britney tells TMZ, the singer and her team are sick of “made-up” stories, especially in the face of how hard she’s work to turn her life around. They say if the story runs they will absolutely sue the magazine, adding this will be the first of many lawsuits to stop the lies.

Spears’ lawyer called the VMA account “utterly false, highly defamatory and completely offensive to Ms. Spears.” Spears and her team are probably particularly sensitive to stories of this nature given her ongoing conservatorship and history at the VMAs. And their statement follows Radar Online’s story from last week—which her team also denied—that Britney was “quite blindsided” after learning that Beyoncé and Rihanna had higher profiles at the VMAs than she did.
