British Woman Jumped Out of Her Third-Story Hotel Room in India Because She Feared Sexual Assault

Latest

Reports of what appears to be an attempted sexual assault in India have added yet another ignominious chapter to the country’s recent saga of high-profile sex crimes. Fearing an attack from a hotel owner, a British woman traveling alone near the Taj Mahal jumped out of the window of her third-story hotel room.

The AP has the details of the woman’s terrifying ordeal:

Police arrested the hotel owner in connection with the incident in Agra, the site of the Taj Mahal, one of India’s most cherished tourist attractions, Gaur said. No charges have been filed.
The woman told the police that the hotel owner kept knocking on her door persistently and even tried to unlock the door after she refused his offer of a free massage.
The owner denied that and police said he told them he knocked on the woman’s door only because she had asked to be woken up at 4 a.m.

Oh yes, because all thorough wake-up calls include breaking down a guest’s door and threatening sexual violence. Who’d even need an alarm clock? The fear, adrenaline, and three-story tumble are quite enough to keep tourists wide-fucking awake forever.

A spokesman for the British High Commission in New Delhi told the AP that a consular team has spoken to both the woman involved in the incident and the police, adding that the woman is right now being offered consular assistance.

News of the British woman’s apparent brush with sexual assault comes tripping on the heels of reports that six Indian men had been arrested over the weekend for the brutal gang-rape of a Swiss tourist.
