Bristol Palin Feuds With Keith Olbermann

Latest

Bristol Palin has responded to Keith Olbermann mocking her safe-sex PSA, saying, “Accusing me of hypocrisy is by now, an old canard. What Mr. Olbermann lacks in originality he makes up for with insincere incredulity.” Someone’s using mom’s ghostwriter!

Olbermann dubbed Bristol this week’s "Worst Person In The World" after watching the PSA she did with The Situation for the Candie’s Foundation:

Yesterday in a post titled, “Mr. Olbermann—Sorry We Can’t All Be As Perfect As You,” Bristol wrote:

… Parents warn their children about the mistakes they made so they are not repeated. Former gang members travel to schools to educate teenagers about the risks of gang life. Recovered addicts lecture to others about the risks of alcohol and drug abuse. And yes, a teen mother talks about the benefits of preventing teen pregnancy.
I have never claimed to be perfect. If that makes me the “worst person in the world” to Mr. Olbermann, then I must apologize for not being absolutely faultless like he undoubtedly must be.
To Mr. Olbermann let me say this: you can attack me all you want. But you will not stop me from getting my message out about teen pregnancy prevention. And one day, if you ever have a daughter, you may change your mind about me.

Unlike other Palin family Facebook missives, whoever wrote this actually makes a good point. Why does Olbermann find the idea of someone who’s suffered the consequences of unprotected sex advocating condom use so hilarious? You can criticize the PSA for having a muddled message on safe sex and abstinence, or being the cheesiest two minutes ever committed to video, but there’s nothing wrong with Bristol encouraging others not to repeat her mistakes.

Though Olbermann did not mention Bristol’s post on his show last night, he Tweeted today:

Yes, pushing an ineffective policy that hurts teens may be a “Worst Person In The World”-worthy offense. It’s just too bad that Olbermann didn’t say this in the first place, rather than going for a lazy teen mom joke.
