Bridesmaids Star Melissa McCarthy Cast In Judd Apatow Flick

Latest

Good news and bad news: The good news is that Melissa McCarthy, who was hilarious in Bridesmaids, has joined the cast of a comedy being directed and written by Judd Apatow. It’s exciting because Apatow — who produced flicks like Anchorman, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pineapple Express and directed, produced and wrote The 40-Year-Old Virgin — can help catapult McCarthy into superstardom where she belongs. She’s got impeccable comedic timing, and unlike the women who usually get to hang with the funny guys in these movies, she is not thin and blonde. Non-skinny dudes like Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel have no problem finding work on funny flicks, but the ladies — like Katherine Heigl and Christina Applegate — are always slim like ladies are supposed to be.

The bad news isn’t really that bad. I was just hoping McCarthy was starring in the Apatow movie, a Knocked Up spinoff tentatively titled This Is Forty. Instead, the stars are Apatow’s superfunny wife Leslie Mann and sparkle-eyed heartthrob Paul Rudd. Ryan Lee, one of the kids in Super 8, will play McCarthy’s son. Never mind. No bad news. No complaints here. Carry on!
