Antoine Dodson Performs "Bed Intruder" At BET Hip-Hop Awards

Latest

Paging cultural theorists: A distressed interview a culturally-disenfranchised man gave about his sister’s attempted rape became a hit song, and last night we saw him “perform” it at a glittering awards show.

That’s Dodson with the Autotune The News guy at the BET awards, which aired last night. Also yesterday, Dodson’s words were co-opted by Christine O’Donnell, whose campaign used them to insinuate about Chris Coons’ sinister plans for taxes.

Dodson told The Root, “They reached out to me and said, ‘You are the hot topic right now, so we want you to be on the show.’ I thought I was just presenting. I did not know what I was doing until I got there. So I was like, ‘Oh, I’m performing? OK.’ That was my first performance ever.”

Nonetheless, Dodson seems in control of his message, and as we know, he was able to purchase a house for his family with the proceeds of the song. Asked what he planned to do with fame, Dodson said, “I’m just going into it as deep as I can. I want to talk about rape victims all over the world, and also my lifestyle. I’m an African-American gay man.”

Hey, there’s a series of messages O’Donnell could stand to hear.
