Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, her husband of two years, citing irreconcilable differences.
According to TMZ, who broke the news, Jolie has retained celebrity divorce queen Laura Wasser, who also handled her divorce from Billy Bob Thorton. It’s not clear who is currently representing Brad Pitt, but hopefully they have kids because that tuition just got paid.
There’s plenty to infer here—per TMZ, who got their hands on the filing, Jolie is not requesting any spousal support and lists their date of separation as Sept. 15, 2016. And then there’s this:
She’s asking for physical custody of the couple’s 6 children. She is asking the judge to give Pitt visitation. It’s significant ...she does not want Brad to have joint physical custody ... only joint legal custody.
They also add that (per a source) her “decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children ... she was extremely upset with his methods.”
On the other hand, Page Six reports the split was over something much more specific—an affair between Pitt and his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard.
Angelina Jolie is dumping Brad Pitt after hiring a private investigator to spy on him on the set of his latest film — where, she learned, he was cheating, a well-placed source told The Post on Tuesday.
“She hired a private eye because she felt that he was fooling around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw,” the source said.
In a statement to E! News, Jolie’s manager said she “will always do what’s in the best interest of taking care of her family” and “appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Soon after the news about Jolie filing hit the press, Pitt released a statement to—where else?—People:
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” he said in the statement. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
President Obama is expected to weigh in soon.
