Police are currently responding to an active shooter situation in a Walmart in Amarillo, Texas. Authorities believe that the shooter has taken hostages.
According to a local ABC affiliate, the Amarillo Police Department is on the scene, evacuating people out of the out of the building and securing the area.
“The City’s Office of Emergency Management, Amarillo Police and Amarillo Fire are on the scene of an active shooter incident at the Walmart on Georgia off of I-27,” read a statement from the city.
The breaking news comes three days after the deadliest shooting in U.S. history at Pulse, an LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida left 49 dead.

Update (1:25 p.m.): A Facebook post from the Randall County Sheriff’s Office confirms that there is “one person armed with a gun inside Walmart and at least one hostage.” The post continues:
We do consider this a work-place violence situation at this point. All agencies are on scene, including Amarillo SWAT, APD, RCSO, PCSO and DPS. The SWAT robot is currently being utilized.
Although there were reports of shots fired when officers arrived on scene, there have been no confirmed injuries.
According to Sheriff’s Office, officers are inside the building.
Update (1:50 p.m.): According to the Amarillo Police Department, the suspect has been shot dead by police and all hostages are safe.
