A Running List of John Fetterman's Very Best Burns of Dr. Oz

A Running List of John Fetterman's Very Best Burns of Dr. Oz

Pennsylvania's Democratic nominee for Senate absolutely bodies the former TV doctor every single day, and we cannot stop laughing.

It is unwise to stan politicians, but there comes a time when we must stan their ingenious campaign staffers (which, sure, said candidate had the wherewithal to hire). Specifically, as someone born and raised in Pennsylvania, I am here to applaud the digital team of the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s open senate seat, John Fetterman.

Fetterman has the best social media presence of a politician that I’ve ever seen, and it’s gotten even more hilarious since Dr. Mehmet Oz—yes, that Dr. Oz—(barely) won the Republican senate primary.

The campaign has been highlighting the stark differences between Fetterman and Oz. Pennsylvania’s current lieutenant governor, who lives in a converted car dealership in a former steel town, supports ending the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade, and wants to legalize marijuana. Oz, by contrast, is a Trump-endorsed, anti-abortion multimillionaire who has long lived in New Jersey and only bought a house in Pennsylvania to run for Senate. (Oz is still registered as a New Jersey voter and incorrectly spelled the name of his “hometown” in his statement of candidacy.)

There are the subtle digs, like tweets about Oz shilling “bogus diet pills” and Fetterman’s ActBlue donation link featuring a photo of Oz about to kiss his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—but the best content remains the sick burns. Here is a collection of social media owns that have likely sent Oz reaching for the aloe vera.

The Oprah Endorsement tweet

The Oprah Endorsement tweet

Oprah Winfrey endorsed Fetterman in a virtual town hall on November 3, which is a big dig against Dr. Oz since she effectively launched him as a celebrity. Winfrey stayed out of the Republican primary but decided it was important to publicly comment ahead of the general election. Team Fetterman responded with this subtle but incredible shade. Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey (D) gets an honorable mention for deploying this Oprah meme.

The Adam Levine tweet

The Adam Levine tweet

After Maroon 5 frontman and alleged cheater Adam Levine’s cringeworthy texts became public, Fetterman took the opportunity to note that Oz has literally moved to another state and changed his political views in order to win the Republican nomination.

The entire crudité discourse

The entire crudité discourse

An April video of Oz “shopping” for “crudités” at “Wegners” went viral in August for several reasons. Namely, because Oz acted as if he was going to dip raw asparagus into salsa, but also because in attempting to look like a man of the people complaining about inflation, he confused the names of the stores Wegman’s and Redner’s. Not only did Fetterman dunk on Oz for not simply calling these items a veggie tray, his team capitalized on the trending topic by releasing stickers reading “let them eat crudité.”

The 10 houses tweets

The 10 houses tweets

In response to a video of Oz being asked how many houses he owns, the Fetterman team released a Family Feud “survey says” parody video showing all 10 homes, plus a thread of them all for good measure. (Oz tried to say he owns two “houses” and eight more “properties.” Turns out he owns even more commercial properties.) Fetterman also expertly deployed a current meme and posted a very good photo of a Monopoly board.

The Snooki Cameo video

The Snooki Cameo video

Fetterman’s campaign paid Jersey Shore star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi to do a cameo video dragging Oz for moving to Pennsylvania so he could run for Senate. She sticks the landing with this: “I know you’re away from home and you’re in a new place...don’t worry, because you’ll be back home in Jersey soon. This is only temporary.”

The cheesesteak roast

The cheesesteak roast

Pat’s and Geno’s are unfortunately tourist traps. People who aren’t tourists go to places like Jim’s, Dalessandro’s, or Tony Luke’s. Oz is making this way too easy for Team Fetterman.

The Photoshop burn

When Oz released a terribly Photoshopped version of the Step Brothers movie poster depicting the lieutenant governor with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Fetterman was ready.

The ratio certificate

The ratio certificate

Oz, for his part, doesn’t seem to have a very good of a grasp of social media. For example, when he tweeted “Who do YOU trust to fix Pennsylvania?” his replies were full of many variations of “not you.” For this giant self-own, the Fetterman team issued Oz an adorable ratio certificate.

Team Fetterman rented a plane to fly a banner over several New Jersey beaches that read: “Hey Dr. Oz Welcome home to NJ! ❤️ John.” (Here is a video of this beautiful banner in action.)
