A Musical Based on the Life of Tina Turner Is Coming to Broadway

I have to say, this bodes well for Broadway, and me. The story of Tina Turner’s life, which we already know was excellent fodder for one of the all-time greatest movies, is coming to New York City in the form of a jukebox musical.

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the show, which goes by the exuberant name “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” will have its Broadway debut next fall, according to the producers. “Tina” has been performed in London since March and is expected to open in Hamburg, Germany this coming March. All these productions are slated to continue running simultaneously, making the show a triple threat.

Though casting has yet to be finalized, it is expected that the star of London’s show, Tony-nominated Adrienne Warren, will helm the Broadway production.

Tina Turner is associated with the production, which was written by playwright Katori Hall and is directed by Phyllida Lloyd.

I will be seeing the Tina Turner musical, of course. I hope there’s a number like this:
