101-Year-Old Woman Descends a Building On a Rope, NBD

Latest

Doris Long, age 101, just became the oldest abseiler in the world again. What’s an abseiler? A person who descends very high vertical structures on ropes. It’s time to take stock of your unaccomplished life and ponder why you never get anything done.

A few more facts that will make you feel like a galactic failure: Doris started abseiling at 85. This is not her first time breaking a world record. Her feat helped raise $122,305 for Rowans Hospice. This is her 16th time doing this for the hospice.

Doris was notably chill about her record-breaking stunt. “I don’t feel afraid and never have, I just have a placid nature,” she says. “It was very hard work, much harder than last year. It was so windy I swung about a bit, but oh yes, I enjoyed it. I feel it’s well worth it.”

Motto: I Ain’t Never Scared.

Doris Long is a true inspiration for scaredy cats.
