How many people learned the word vagabond through Elton John’s wondrous rendition of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” from The Lion King soundtrack? What is a vagabond? Of course, I know now. But as a child, I was filled with wonder and amazement and had to look it up. And once I did, it was hard not to see kings, vagabonds, and wide-eyed wanderers in everyone around me.
Anyway, a trailer and teasers (including the voice of Beyoncé as Nala) from the upcoming remake of The Lion King have begun to circulate, which led me to revisit The Lion King of yore and the one song that has tickled my fancy for years. Why is Elton John a hologram in the video? (Because that’s what he is.) Why’s it so beautiful? It’s not enough to just listen to it, though. You have to see.
