Your Dream Job is Waiting in Antarctica

Latest

Have you ever dreamed of selling all of your stuff, packing up what’s left, and hightailing it to Antarctica so you can work in a post office with some smelly-ass penguins?

Yeah?

Well consider this your lucky day: a little place called Port Lockroy is looking for someone like you.

Via the BBC:

The Antarctic Heritage Trust is looking for four seasonal workers to spend the Antarctic summer – from November to March – at Port Lockroy.
You’ll run the post officer, shop and museum as well as carry out maintenance.

Well, that sounds doable. Right?

Um.

“Can you carry a big heavy box over slippery rocks and slushy snow whilst dodging penguins?” asks the job advertisement.

I mean, make friends with the penguins, yeah, of course. But dodge them?

“Are you happy not to shower for up to a month, live in close proximity to three people and 2,000 smelly penguins for five months?”

Three people. 2,000 penguins. The math just doesn’t seem right. Also: one shower? Maybe that’s where the smell is coming from.

Workers in the post office have to handle 70,000 items of mail over the season.

Oh, well, when you put it like that. (Adds “sorting mail” and “dodging smelly penguins” to resumé.)

(Applications are due by February 27, btw.)
