Woman Will Fight Injustice By Defying Ticket She Got for Helping Ducks

A woman ticketed by police for stopping to help a group of stranded baby ducks is fighting the charge brought against her.

Hallie Bibeau of Newfields said she is basically over it when it comes to state officials who want to dare charge her for stopping to assist the animals. Via First Coast News:

[Bibeau was] driving east on Route 101 on Friday when she had to slam on her brakes to avoid hitting the ducklings. She says their mother and several of the ducklings were hit by a car. The mother died.

A New Hampshire state trooper issued Bibeau a $100 ticket for stopping in the median, which police said is for emergencies only, not duck-related rescue attempts. Bibeau said she plans to fight the ticket in court.

According to the Press Herald, one of the ducks did die. The rest are currently being cared for in Maine:

A spokeswoman for the York Wildlife Center said the facility is now looking for a surrogate sibling for the surviving wood duck. She said ducks require nearly continual social interaction in order to develop into healthy adults. For the time being, the center has provided the duckling with a mirror in its enclosure.
